    Besan Chillas for Breakfast

    Standing in 2018 we are trying to manage time for breakfast before starting a day of super packed schedule. Most of the families being nuclear families these days, one has to manage all work all by him or herself. Starting from buying groceries to making breakfast, lunch and dinner we have to manage time for all within this tightly packed schedule. For times when we are lacking with sufficient time in hand to prepare a heavy breakfast for ourself we look for something that’s easy to make yet tickles the taste buds at its best. Besan Cheela is a healthy option for breakfast in that sense. Besan is a rich source of fiber, iron, potassium, manganese, copper, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, folate, vitamin B-6 and thiamine. 1 bowl of cooked chickpeas can fulfil approximately 20 % of your daily protein requirement. The chilla batter could be prepared by mixing vegetables and paneer along with vegetables. Paneer increases the protein content making it more suitable for kids.

    Making Cheela Batter

    • Add Asafoetida, Cumin Seeds, Red Chili Powder, Garam Masala and Salt in a bowl of Besan and mix it well.
    • Add chopped Vegetables like Green chilies, Onion, Tomato, Cottage Cheese and Coriander Leaves.
    • For the vegetable moisture to be absorbed by the besan, mix them well as we we add water to it.
    • Make a lump free and smooth batter by adding oil and water gradually. Once batter is ready keep it aside for later use.

     

    On a mild hot pan add 1/2 tsp of Oil and put the stove at high flame.

    Use a spoon to pick sufficient amount for 1 Cheela and pour the batter in pan. Turn the stove to high flame.

    Spread the batter evenly in a circular shape with the spoon and cook it for at-least 2 minute or until it is slightly cooked from the bottom.

    Small little holes coming up on the surface of the Cheela, signals the Cheela is cooked from the bottom.

    To help Cheela come Off the pan easily pour 1/2 tsp oil on the edge of the spread batter.

    Now, scrape the circumference of the cheela and flip it over very carefully without breaking and cook until it gets golden brown from both the sides.

    Crisy healthy chillas are ready to serve with chutney or ketchup to compliment it with.
