“Idli/idli’s/idlelu is a name given to steamed cakes which are prepared by grinding urad dal and rice. Urad dal/black lentil are earthy flavored, nutritious and mucilaginous textured dal having its origin in India. Mostly parboiled rice is used to make idlis. Idlis usually prepared by steaming process. The fermentation process breaks down the starches so that they are more readily metabolized by the body. Fermentation process of idli batter increases B complex and C vitamins, which are helpful to fight against the diseases. As it is a combination of cereal-pulse it makes a complete healthy meal. Idli’s are ideal for even those who are on diet as they are low in fat and gluten free.
Preparation time- 10 minutes
Pour batter in a container and leave it for 5 minutes to bring it down to room temperature.
Preheat the idli steamer on medium heat.
Very lightly grease idli pan with Rishta Cooking oil/ Rishta Ghee.
For every batch of Idli batter (approx 10-12 idlis), mix a pinch of baking powder to batter and pour it in Idli mould.
Put the idli mould immediately in the steamer. Bring it to high steam. Cook for 10 minutes. Check if its fully cooked.
Serve hot and relish soft and fluffy Rishta Idlis with your favourite Rishta pickle or chutney
